Open any options calculation straight from a link (Query Strings for Options Profit Calculator)

Posted Sep 27 2026

You can now open Options Profit Calculator with a trade already filled in and calculated, just by using a link. Add the stock symbol and your option legs to the URL, and the calculator loads with estimated returns ready to go.

This works for single options and for custom strategies of up to 8 legs. That makes it easy to:

  • Share a trade idea with a friend, a Discord group or your newsletter readers
  • Bookmark strategies you check often
  • Build calculator links from your own spreadsheet or tool

Example 1: A single call option

Buy 1 AAPL $350 call expiring December 17, 2027:

Example 2: A 4-leg iron condor

An AAPL iron condor expiring December 17, 2027. Buy the $300 put, sell the $320 put, sell the $360 call, and buy the $380 call.

How the link works

Start with the stock symbol:

symbol=AAPL

Then describe each leg, numbered leg1, leg2, leg3 and so on. Each leg needs five values:

  • legN_dir: buy or write (write means sell to open)
  • legN_qty: number of contracts, from 1 to 500
  • legN_exp: expiration date as YYMMDD. For example, December 17, 2027 is 271217
  • legN_typ: c for a call, p for a put
  • legN_strike: the strike price, for example 350

Separate each value with &, like in the examples above. You can use 1 to 6 legs, or 8 legs. The calculator picks the right strategy page for you.

Use your own prices (optional)

By default, we look up the current stock price and use the mid-price (halfway between the bid and ask) for each option. You can override either one:

  • provr: sets your own stock price, for example provr=341.46
  • legN_optovr: sets your own price for a single leg. Handy for entering the actual price you paid or received, for example leg1_optovr=46.95

Here’s a real example. On September 26, 2026, AAPL traded at $341.46 and the December 17, 2027 $350 call was quoted at $45.25 bid / $46.95 ask. Say you bought one at the ask. This link recreates that exact trade, so your estimates stay based on what you actually paid, even as prices move:

A few tips

  • The expiration date and strike must exist for that stock. If they don’t, the calculator shows a message telling you which leg to fix.
  • Once an expiration date has passed, links for it stop working. Just update the date to a current expiration.
  • Once the calculation loads, you can change anything on the page and click Calculate, just like normal.
